Baseball earns sweep over UM-Dearborn in doubleheader
(Royal Oak, MI) - Concordia baseball continued a busy schedule with a doubleheader against UM-Dearborn.  The Cardinals erupted for a 27-2 win in game one and claimed a 7-6 victory in game two. 
 
GAME 1 – CUAA 27, UM-D 2 (seven innings) 
Blake Weaver started on the mound, pitching two innings with four strikeouts.  The Cardinals scored 7 runs in the first, starting with an RBI single from Logan Hylek.  Tyler Wressel tacked on a 2-RBI triple and Justin Kozlowski had a 2-RBI single. Aaron West capped the inning with an RBI single. 

CUAA added six runs in the second inning.  Tyler Wressel scored on a passed ball.  Alex Czyzewski and Ryan reached on an error.  Justin Kozlowski added an RBI double and Aaron West knocked an RBI single.  Kyle Hebner capped the inning with his own RBI single.  

Matthew Sapakoff pitched in the third inning.  UM Dearborn scored a run to break the shutout.   
Caden Flanery pitched the fourth and fifth innings with one strikeout.  In the fourth, Joe Finder used an RBI groundout to score Andre Hutchins.  In the fifth, Hutchins hit an RBI groundout to drive in Aaron Garner.   

Logan Morris pitched the last two innings with one strikeout.  The Cardinals plated 12 runs in the seventh, starting with a 2-RBI double from Joe Finder.  Taisei Yamada added a 2-RBI single.  Ryan Kotecki reached home on a passed ball.  Taishin Matsushita added a 2-RBI single.  Aaron Garner, Taishin Matsushita, Curtis Townsend, and Andre Hutchins all made it home on errors.  Taisei Yamada capped the inning with an RBI groundout.   

Logan Morris closed out the seventh inning to secure the lopsided 27-2 victory.  
 
GAME 2 – CUAA 7, UM-D 6 (nine innings) 
Ethan Pollard pitched the first 3 innings, making six strikeouts.  Drew Fleming had a 2-run homer in the first.   

In the second inning, Josh Burke had an RBI single to score Justin Kozlowski.  UM-Dearborn scored three runs in the third to tie the game.  

Kyle Winslow pitched the next three innings with 2 strikeouts.  Justin Kozlowski made a go-ahead RBI groundout to score Jake Kuhlman in the fourth inning.   

In the fifth inning, Harrison Ryan used a sacrifice fly to drive in Tyler Wressel.  UM-Dearborn tied the game with two runs in the sixth and took the lead with a run in the seventh.  
 
In the eighth inning, Aaron West tied the game with an RBI single scoring Jake Kuhlman.  West made it home on an error to put the Cardinals back ahead.   

Drew Fleming pitched in the ninth inning, making a strikeout and earning the save in the 7-6 victory.  


Concordia will travel to Aquinas this Saturday April 6 for a doubleheader starting at 1pm.
