Baseball dominates Grace Christian on Senior Day

(Ann Arbor, MI) - Concordia baseball hosted Grace Christian for a non-conference doubleheader on Tuesday afternoon. The Cardinals celebrated their senior team members and earned victories by scores of 9-4 and 22-4.

 

GAME 1 – CUAA 9, GC 4 (seven innings)

Caden Flanery started game one on the mound, pitching 4.2 innings with 2 strikeouts. Drew Fleming opened scoring in the first inning with an RBI single scoring Jake Kuhlman. Fleming reached home on a balk to make it 2-0.

Grace Christian scored a run in the second inning, but the Cardinals countered in the bottom half when Aaron West was hit by a pitch with the bases loaded to force Taishin Matsushita home. Drew Fleming hit a sacrifice fly to score Taisei Yamada and Jake Kuhlman also scored on a throwing error.

Logan Fleming pitched the final 2.1 innings of the game with 2 strikeouts. In the sixth inning, Jake Ryan reached on a fielder's choice that scored Tyler Lawson. Ryan Patterson then smashed a 3-run homer.

Grace Christian scored 3 runs in the seventh inning but the Cardinals secured the 9-4 victory.

 

GAME 2 – CUAA 22, GC 4 (seven innings)

Mackenzie Martin was the starting pitcher for game two, throwing 4.1 innings with 4 strikeouts. Grace Christian struck first with a run in the first inning.

The Cardinals stormed back with a 9-run second inning. Andre Hutchins and Jake Ryan hit 2-RBI singles and Aaron West added a 2-RBI triple. Drew Fleming used an RBI single to score Aaron West and Curtis Townsend capped the inning with a 2-RBI double.

Grace Christian got two runs back in the third inning. The Cardinals answered with a solo home run by Taisei Yamada and a 2-run shot from Drew Fleming.

Riley O'Connell came on to pitch in the fifth inning, recording 4 strikeouts in 2.1 innings. The Cardinals exploded for 10 runs in the sixth inning. Taishin Matsushita started things off with an RBI single while Taisei Yamada drew a bases-loaded walk. Andre Hutchins reached home on a balk and Jake Ryan added an RBI single. Jake Kuhlman, Kyle Hebner and Caden Flanery all added RBIs and Andre Hutchins drew a bases-loaded walk. Taishin Matsushita used a sacrifice fly to drive in Flanery and Curtis Townsend scored on a wild pitch.

Ryan Kotecki secured the final strikeout in the seventh inning to close out the 22-4 win.

Concordia will travel to Cleary tomorrow, April 17th, for a doubleheader starting at 2pm
