Baseball falls in high scoring contest against Southwestern Christian at Day 2 of NCCAA World Series

(Kansas City, MO) - Concordia baseball faced #6 seed Southwestern Christian University on the second day of the National Christian College Athletic Association (NCCAA) World Series.  Both teams featured an explosive offense, but the Cardinals would fall 9-8.

 

 

The Cardinal offense started strong with 5 runs in the top of the first inning. Justin Kozlowski and Tyler Wressel hit bases-loaded singles to drive in Harrison Ryan and Josh Burke respectively.  Aaron West had a 2-RBI single, and Harrison Ryan added an RBI bunt single to cap the inning. 

 

Ethan Pollard and Trey Acker combined to pitch the first inning with Acker going two innings with one strikeout.  Southwestern Christian responded with 6 runs to take the lead. The Eagles added 2 more runs in the second inning.

 

Drew Fleming had a bases-loaded RBI single in the third inning to score Jake KuhlmanBlake Weaver came in to pitch starting in the third inning, pitching 4.1 innings with 3 strikeouts. 

 

In the fifth inning, Logan Hylek hit into a fielder's choice to score Jake KuhlmanJustin Kozlowski then tied the game 8-8 with an RBI single to drive in Jake Ryan.

 

Southwestern Christian reclaimed the lead with a run in the seventh inning.  Kenneth (Dave) Rozmys finished the inning on the mound and threw the last 1.2 innings with 2 strikeouts. 

 

The Cardinals put forth a strong effort but were unable to mount a comeback and fell 9-8.

 

 

Concordia will play tomorrow, May 21st, at 3:30pm against the winner of #8 Trinity Christian College versus #10 Columbia International University.  If the Cardinals win that game, they will play again tomorrow evening at 7pm as the NCCAA World Series continues in Kansas City.
