Baseball splits doubleheader at Aquinas

(Rockford, MI) - Concordia baseball traveled to play Aquinas on Saturday afternoon for a WHAC doubleheader at the Meijer Sports Complex. The Cardinals were victorious 6-4 in game one but fell 13-4 in game two.

 

GAME 1 – CUAA 6, AQ 4 (seven innings)

Blake Weaver was the starting pitcher for game one going three innings with 3 strikeouts. The Cardinals took a 2-0 lead in the first when Aaron Garner and Drew Fleming made it home on an error. In the second, Josh Burke had a 2-RBI double scoring Aaron West and Justin Kozlowski.

Kenneth (Dave) Rozmys pitched starting in the fourth, throwing three innings with 4 strikeouts. Aquinas trimmed the lead to 4-3 after the fourth inning.

Drew Fleming hit a 2-run homer in the top of the seventh to extend the lead. Fleming then pitched the bottom half, making 1 strikeout and securing the 6-4 victory.

 

GAME 2 – AQ 13, CUAA 4 (nine innings)

Ethan Pollard started game two on the mound, pitching four innings with 5 strikeouts. Tyler Wressel opened scoring with an RBI single in the first which scored Josh Burke. Aquinas countered with four runs in the bottom half.

Jake Kuhlman started the comeback effort in the third inning with an RBI single scoring Drew Fleming. In the fourth inning, Fleming used an RBI single to drive in Aaron West. Justin Kozlowski hit a game-tying RBI double in the fifth to score Jake Kuhlman.

Kyle Winslow pitched 1.1 innings started in the fifth making 1 strikeout. Aquinas broke the tie with 4 runs in the sixth inning. Trey Acker pitched the next two innings recording 3 strikeouts.

Aquinas added five more runs in the eight and held on to take game two.

 

Concordia will face Aquinas again on the road tomorrow, April 7th, for a doubleheader starting at 1pm.
