Baseball ousted on day two of WHAC Tournament

(Ann Arbor, MI) - Concordia baseball competed on day two of the WHAC Tournament on Thursday afternoon. The Cardinals fell 24-2 to Indiana Tech in the first contest and dropped a close 5-4 match against Aquinas in an elimination game.

 

GAME 1 – IT 24, CUAA 2

Drew Murphy, Blake Weaver, and Kyle Winslow combined to pitch the first inning. Indiana Tech jumped out to a quick start with 13 runs in the first inning.

 

Mackenzie Martin came on in the second inning, pitching four innings with 3 strikeouts. Indiana Tech built a 20-0 lead after five innings.

 

Logan Fleming pitched the sixth through eighth innings with 2 strikeouts. The Cardinals got on the board in the sixth inning when Justin Kozlowski used an RBI single to score Drew Fleming. Curtis Townsend added an RBI single to drive in Harrison Ryan.

 

Ryan Kotecki pitched the ninth inning making 1 strikeout. However, Indiana Tech claimed the 24-2 win.

 

GAME 2 – AQ 5, CUAA 4

Bryon Mane was the starting pitcher for game two, going six innings with 4 strikeouts. Aquinas took a 3-0 lead after the second inning.

 

The Cardinals surged ahead with 4 runs in the fourth inning. Drew Fleming and Josh Burke reached home on an error. Justin Kozlowski tied the game with an RBI groundout scoring Logan Hylek. Kyle Hebner had a go-ahead RBI single to drive in Jake Kuhlman.

 

Kenneth (Dave) Rozmys pitched the seventh and eighth innings with 2 strikeouts. Aquinas retook the lead with 2 runs in the seventh inning. The Saints were able to hold the Cardinal offense in check and took the win.
