Baseball takes first game of weekend series with Madonna
(Livonia, MI) - Concordia baseball traveled to Madonna University for a nine-inning contest to open a weekend series.  The Cardinals survived an early test but then pulled away for an 8-5 victory. 
 
Bryon Mane was the starting pitcher, recording 2 strikeouts in 3.1 innings.  Logan Hylek opened scoring in the first inning with an RBI double that drove in Josh Burke.   

Drew Fleming tacked on a solo home run in the top of the third inning.  Madonna countered with 3 runs in the bottom half to take a 3-2 lead.  

Kenneth (Dave) Rozmys pitched starting in the fourth inning, making 5 strikeouts in 3.2 innings.  Madonna added a home run in the sixth inning.   

The Cardinals surged back into the lead with a 4-run seventh inning.  Tyler Wressel tied the game with a 2-RBI single that flew by the short-stop to score Ryan Kotecki and Aaron Garner.  Justin Kozlowski and Tyler Wressel reached home after a dropped fly ball in the Madonna outfield.   

In the top of the eighth inning, Josh Burke and Drew Fleming added RBI doubles to extend the lead.  Blake Weaver pitched the last two innings starting in the bottom of the eighth and earned the save.   

Weaver and the Cardinal defense held Madonna to just one more run to secure the 8-5 win.  


Concordia will travel to Madonna University this Sunday, April 28th, for a doubleheader starting at 1pm.
