(Fort Wayne, IN) - Concordia women's basketball competed in day one of the Indiana Tech Classic on Friday night, facing off against Indiana Northwest. The contest was tied at halftime, but the Redhawks pulled away in the second half for a 74-62 win.
Brooke Brauher led the team with 12 points and seven rebounds. Abby Long finished second with 10 points. Lauren Borsenik and Ryan Moorer tied for third with 8 points apiece.
Emily McCalla had the first Cardinal points with two free throws. Ryan Moorer scored inside, and Lauren Borsenik knocked down a triple. Free throws from Moorer gave CUAA their first lead with a 9-8 advantage and Abby Long added a jumper. Emily McCalla converted a layup and Lauren Borsenik made her second 3-pointer. Avery Collins scored and Abby Long hit a triple to tie the game 21-21 after the first quarter.
Lauren Borsenik drained two free throws to open the second quarter. Julia Hirt added free throws and both Brooke Brauher and Avery Collins converted layups. Jess Andrew knocked down a triple for a 33-26 lead, but the Redhawks answered with a 7-0 run to tie the game. Emily McCalla and Abby Long scored in the final minutes but the contest was tied 37-37 at halftime.
Brooke Brauher made a free throw to open the third quarter. Ryan Moorer drove for a layup and Abby Long scored later in the quarter. However, the Redhawks began to rally and led 53-43 after three quarters.
At the start of the fourth quarter, Brooke Brauher scored a layup inside. Jess Andrew and Ryan Moorer added early baskets. Julia Hirt drove for a layup and Brooke Brauher converted two more baskets inside. Brauher drained a 3-pointer and Hirt added a late basket, but the Cardinals fell by a final score of 74-62.
Concordia will compete in day two of the Indiana Tech Classic tomorrow, November 2nd, when they face Olivet Nazarene at 1pm.
