(Mount Vernon, Ohio) - Concordia women's basketball traveled to Mount Vernon Nazarene for a nonconference game on Friday evening. The Cardinals kept the contest close in the first half but fell 69-50 at the end of the game.
Lauren Borsenik led the team with 20 points. Abby Long and Avery Collins tied for second with eight points apiece. Brooke Brauher had a team-high 11 rebounds while Emily McCalla had ten rebounds.
Emily McCalla had the first Cardinal points with an "and-1". Lauren Borsenik scored five straight CUAA points with a free throw and two mid-range jumpers. Abby Long also knocked down a deep jumpshot, but the Cardinals trailed 13-10 after the first quarter.
Lauren Borsenik made two free throws early in the second quarter. Brooke Brauher banked in a basket inside and Emily McCalla scored on a fast break. Abby Long drained two free throws and made a jumper but CUAA faced a 25-21 deficit at halftime.
Brooke Brauher powered inside for a basket to start the third quarter. Abby Long made two free throws and set up Avery Collins for a fast break layup. Collins continued to have the hot hand with a triple and another basket. However, MVNU began to pull away and build a double-digit lead. Lauren Borsenik ended the run with a late jumper, but CUAA was down 50-34 after the third quarter.
Ryan Moorer made two free throws to start the fourth quarter. Julia Hirt drained a three-pointer as the Cardinals looked to rally. Lauren Borsenik continued to lead the offense with baskets inside and free throws. However, CUAA fell by a final score of 69-50.
Concordia will hold their home opener on Thursday, November 14th, when they host Ohio Christian at 5:30pm.
