(Ann Arbor, MI) - Concordia women's basketball hosted UM-Dearborn on Wednesday night to begin WHAC play. The Cardinals stifled the Wolverines and cruised to a 73-44 victory.
Lauren Borsenik led the team with 20 points. Abby Long finished a close second with 18 points. Jess Andrew was also in double figures with 11 points. Emily McCalla led the team with 10 rebounds.
Lauren Borsenik scored the first six Cardinal points to open the game. Ryan Moorer made a layup and Jess Andrew nailed a triple. Brooke Brauher drained two free throws and Jess Andrew scored a layup to end a Wolverine scoring run. Abby Long made a 3-pointer at the buzzer for an 18-15 CUAA lead after one quarter.
Emily McCalla drove for a layup to open the second quarter. Abby Long knocked down a triple, but the Wolverines trimmed the Cardinal lead to 24-21. Abby Long responded with another 3-pointer and Brooke Brauher scored inside. Free throws from Abby Long and a layup by Jess Andrew gave CUAA a double-digit lead up 33-23. Jess Andrew and Abby Long continued to extend the Cardinal lead with Long adding a late triple for a 41-23 halftime lead.
Avery Collins made a free throw to stop a 5-0 Wolverine run. Lauren Borsenik remained strong inside with a layup and Avery Collins added two more free throws. Jess Andrew scored on a fast break and Lauren Borsenik continued to dominate the paint putting CUAA ahead 54-32 after three quarters.
Lauren Borsenik converted a layup to start the fourth quarter. Abby Long split the defense with a shifty move to score a layup. Brooke Brauher and Ryan Moorer added to the lead with Emily McCalla also draining two free throws. Julia Viau knocked down a triple off the bench and Hannah Vallier also added a spark with a late basket. CUAA claimed the 73-44 victory as time expired.
Concordia will travel to Lawrence Tech this Saturday, November 23rd, for a 1pm game.
