(Lansing, MI) - Concordia women's basketball faced Cleary on Saturday night in a WHAC matchup.  The Cardinals slowly worked to erase an early deficit, but the Cougars held on for a 64-57 win. 

 

Lauren Borsenik led the team with 18 points.  Brooke Brauher finished second with 11 points. Ryan Moorer had a team-high 10 rebounds while adding nine points.   

 

 

Brooke Brauher made a free throw for the first Cardinal point in the first quarterEmily McCalla drove for a layup as the Cardinals looked to emerge from an early deficit.  Avery Collins and Ellie Kallner also added baskets with Lauren Borsenik converting an "and-1" in the final seconds. CUAA trailed 14-10 after the first quarter. 

 

The Cardinals found offense from Brooke Brauher inside along with free throws from Abby Long early in the second quarter.  Lauren Borsenik and Ryan Moorer made layups with a triple from Abby Long cutting the Cleary lead to 28-25.  CUAA faced a 31-25 deficit at halftime.  

 

Lauren Borsenik and Brooke Brauher produced offense in the paint in the third quarter.  Abby Long added a 3-pointer and Ryan Moorer scored a pair of strong layups.  Cleary led 49-40 after the third quarter.   

 

Ryan Moorer started a 6-0 run with a free throw in the fourth quarter.  Julia Hirt created a spark with a 3-pointer and a drive to the basket.  Ryan Moorer added another bucket and Lauren Borsenik began to dominate the paint with seven straight CUAA points.  Despite pulling with two points, the Cardinals were unable to complete a comeback and fell 64-57. 

 

Concordia will return home to host University of Northwestern Ohio next Saturday, December 14th, at 1pm at the Cardinal Fieldhouse.
