Women's Basketball drops tight contest at Aquinas

(Grand Rapids, MI) - CUAA women's basketball traveled to Aquinas on Monday night for a WHAC contest.  The game was a close match throughout but the Saints pulled away for a 55-47 win.  

 

Lauren Borsenik and Ryan Moorer tied for a team-high 13 points.  Moorer had a team-best of 11 rebounds to complete her double-double.   

 

Lauren Borsenik scored the first six Cardinal points.  Avery Collins drove for a layup and Abby Long knocked down a triple.  Ryan Moorer made a short jumper and CUAA led 14-11 after the first quarter. 

 

Aquinas used a 6-0 run to take the lead early in the second quarter.  Brooke Brauher ended their run with an inside basket and Abby Long made a short jumper.  Ryan Moorer hit a jumper and Lauren Borsenik scored inside to tie the game 23-23 with 2:36 left.  Jess Andrew had a go-ahead triple to cap a 7-0 run.  However, Aquinas retook the lead and CUAA trailed 29-26 at halftime. 

 

Ryan Moorer had two baskets early in the third quarter.  Lauren Borsenik scored inside and Moorer stayed sharp with a 3-pointer.  Emily McCalla nailed a triple as well and CUAA faced a 44-38 deficit after the third quarter.   

 

Lauren Borsenik opened the fourth quarter with a 3-pointer.  Aquinas clamped down defensively to take a double-digit lead, but Ryan Moorer and Emily McCalla made a comeback effort with baskets.  Avery Collins had two late free throws, but CUAA fell 55-47 as time expired.  

 

CUAA will return home this Saturday, February 8th, to host Cleary at 1pm.
