(Lima, OH) - CUAA women's basketball traveled to UNOH Friday night for a WHAC game. The Cardinals exploded for 30 points in the first quarter and held off a late Racer run to win 73-66.
Abby Long led the team with 23 points. Ryan Moorer had a double-double with 15 points and a team-high 12 rebounds. Avery Collins came in third with nine points.
Ryan Moorer and Abby Long made 3-pointers to start the first quarter. Long drove for a layup and Moorer added free throws. The team continued to extend their lead with baskets from Lauren Borsenik, Emily McCalla and Brooke Brauher. McCalla drove for another layup and Abby Long hit a triple. Jess Andrew and Ryan Moorer knocked down jumpers to continue the standout quarter. Hannah Vallier made a 3-pointer and Avery Collins drained free throws to put CUAA up 30-14 after the first quarter.
Both defenses exchanged stops for most of the second quarter. Ryan Moorer scored two baskets and Abby Long added free throws. A 3-pointer from Abby Long put CUAA up 40-27 at halftime.
Lauren Borsenik scored inside to open the third quarter. Abby Long made a triple and Ryan Moorer crossed over her defender and made a jumpshot. Jess Andrew drove for a layup and Brooke Brauher scored inside. Abby Long made a layup and free throws from Brooke Brauher gave CUAA a 58-47 lead after three quarters.
Avery Collins made a 3-pointer from the corner to start the fourth quarter. UNOH began to tighten the game, trimming the lead to 61-58 at the 4:05 mark. Avery Collins drove for a layup and Abby Long made a triple and a jumper as both teams traded baskets. Free throws from Jess Andrew, Avery Collins, Ryan Moorer and Emily McCalla secured the 73-66 victory.
CUAA will return home this Wednesday, February 19th, to host (RV) Indiana Tech at 5:30pm.
