Women's Basketball overpowers UM-Dearborn 92-59

(Dearborn, MI) - Concordia women's basketball traveled to UM-Dearborn Wednesday night to resume WHAC play.  The Cardinals erased an early deficit and surged ahead to defeat the Wolverines 92-59. 

 

 

Abby Long led the team with 22 points. Ryan Moorer finished second with 18 points.  Avery Collins came in third with 13 points.  Julia Hirt had a team-high of seven rebounds.   

 

Abby Long had the first Cardinal basket with a 3-pointer.  Avery Collins drove for two layups and Abby Long added two free throws as the teams traded points. Abby Long knocked down a triple and Ryan Moorer finished an "and-1" in the final minutes.  CUAA trailed 20-16 at the end of the first quarter. 

 

Ryan Moorer opened scoring in the second quarter with a layup.  Abby Long hit a jumper and Ryan Moorer drained free throws to give CUAA their first lead at 22-20.  Brooke Brauher and Emily McCalla drained free throws to get their names on the scoresheet.  Brooke Brauher scored inside and Ryan Moorer made a triple and a jumper.  Late free throws from Abby Long put CUAA ahead 37-27 at halftime. 

 

Emily McCalla started the third quarter with a layup.  Ryan Moorer converted an "and-1" and Avery Collins turned a steal into a basket. Abby Long also finished an "and-1" and Ryan Moorer made a triple.  Abby Long also knocked down a 3-pointer and Hannah Vallier made a layup. Jess Andrew had the last five points of the quarter to give CUAA a 64-40 lead. 

 

Brooke Brauher opened the fourth quarter with a pair of free throws.  Jess Andrew hit a jumper and Avery Collins made a take to the basket.  Ellie Kallner had a layup and Hannah Vallier made a short jumper.  Julia Hirt made a pair of free throws and Avery Collins drove for another basket.  Hannah Vallier generated five more points and Brooke Brauher scored inside.  Julia Hirt and Ellie Kallner rounded out the scoring with an "and-1" each to wrap up the 92-59 victory. 

 

Concordia will return home this Saturday, February 1st, when they host Lawrence Tech at 1pm.
