Women's Basketball downs Lawrence Tech 85-61

(Ann Arbor, MI) - CUAA women's basketball hosted Lawrence Tech on Saturday afternoon for a WHAC game.  The Cardinals pulled ahead early and cruised to an 85-61 victory. 

 

Abby Long led the team with 15 points.  Jess Andrew finished second with 13 points.  Four other Cardinals were in double figures: Emily McCalla (11), Ryan Moorer (11), Avery Collins (10) and Lauren Borsenik (10).  Borsenik also added a team-high of eight rebounds. 

 

 

Avery Collins opened scoring with a layup.  Lauren Borsenik scored inside and Abby Long was fouled shooting a triple and made all free throws. Abby Long knocked down another jumper and Jess Andrew converted an "and-1".  Ryan Moorer drove for a pair of baskets and both Jess Andrew and Lauren Borsenik made free throws.  Emily McCalla converted a layup and Julia Hirt drained free throws as the Cardinals received balanced scoring.  A late layup by Brooke Brauher put CUAA up 28-10 after the first quarter. 

 

Emily McCalla started the second quarter with a layup.  Jess Andrew also scored and both McCalla and Avery Collins drove for baskets.  Ryan Moorer had four free throws down the stretch and CUAA led 40-22 at halftime. 

 

Abby Long started the third quarter with a quick layup.  Avery Collins scored a pair of baskets and Ryan Moorer made a triple.  Brooke Brauher hit a jumpshot and Jess Andrew drove the length of the floor for a basket.  Avery Collins made free throws and Abby Long knocked down two 3-pointers.  Lauren Borsenik scored in the paint and Brooke Brauher added free throws.  A late floater from Emily McCalla gave CUAA a 67-48 lead after three quarters.   

 

Emily McCalla opened the fourth quarter with a layup.  Jess Andrew made a jumper and Lauren Borsenik finished an "and-1" inside.  Julia Hirt knocked down a triple to continue the offensive onslaught.  Jess Andrew and Abby Long made baskets to continue their solid play.  Ellie Kallner got on the scoresheet with a layup and Julia Hirt kept scoring with two free throws.  CUAA claimed an 85-61 win as time expired. 

 

CUAA will travel to Aquinas this Wednesday, February 5th, for a 5:30pm game.
