(Ann Arbor, MI) - CUAA women's basketball hosted Cleary on Saturday afternoon for a WHAC contest. The Cardinals played well and brought home a 71-50 win.
Lauren Borsenik led the team with 23 points and eight rebounds. Jess Andrew finished second with 14 points. Abby Long came in third with 11 points.
Lauren Borsenik opened scoring with a layup. Ryan Moorer made a jumper and Avery Collins added two free throws. Jess Andrew had two baskets but Cleary briefly tied the game 10-10. Emily McCalla started a 6-0 run to reclaim the lead with a layup. Ryan Moorer and Jess Andrew completed the run to put CUAA ahead 6-10 after the first quarter.
Emily McCalla had a free throw to start the second quarter. Lauren Borsenik scored inside and Jess Andrew knocked down another jumper. Borsenik and Andrew continued to lead the offense and Ellie Kallner had a triple. Ryan Moorer hit a jumper and Lauren Borsenik continued to be strong inside. Abby Long got on the board with a 3-pointer to put CUAA up 35-22 at halftime.
Lauren Borsenik had the first five Cardinal points in the third quarter. Abby Long made a jumper and Avery Collins drove for a layup. Julia Hirt, Lauren Borsenik and Jess Andrew all drained free throws to maintain the lead. Borsenik converted an "and-1" and Abby Long made a 3-pointer to give CUAA a 57-41 lead after three quarters.
Jess Andrew and Julia Hirt drove for layups early in the fourth quarter. Lauren Borsenik made a jumper and Hannah Vallier drove for a basket. Abby Long made a 3-pointer and Ellie Kallner had a layup to secure the 71-50 victory.
CUAA will travel to rival Siena Heights this Wednesday, February 12th, for a 6pm game.
