(Rochester, MI) - Concordia women's basketball traveled to Rochester Christian on Saturday afternoon for a WHAC game.  The Cardinals got back in the win column by earning a 65-56 victory. 

 

Ryan Moorer led the team with 17 points and tied Lauren Borsenik with a team-high eight rebounds.  Borsenik added 14 points while Abby Long finished third with 10 points.   

 

 

Lauren Borsenik opened scoring with a layup.  Avery Collins drained two free throws and Ryan Moorer started her solid day with an "and-1" and a layup.  Emily McCalla scored inside and the Cardinals eventually built a 15-6 lead.  However, the Warriors rallied to take the lead with an 11-0 run until Lauren Borsenik tied the game again with a basket.  Ryan Moorer made two late free throws and CUAA trailed 22-19 after the first quarter. 

 

Ryan Moorer drove to the basket to start the second quarter.  Abby Long drained four free throws early on to reclaim the lead and Emily McCalla added a layup.  Brooke Brauher and Lauren Borsenik began to dominate the paint as the Cardinals outscored the Warriors 19-6 in the quarter.  CUAA held a 38-28 lead at halftime. 

 

Rochester Christian used a 10-0 run in the third quarter to tie the game.  Jess Andrew put the Cardinals in front again with two layups and Abby Long added a jumper.  Avery Collins remained solid at the free throw line and CUAA led 50-47 after three quarters.   

 

Lauren Borsenik scored in the paint as the game remained closely contested in the fourth quarter.  Ryan Moorer knocked down a jumpshot and Abby Long had a triple as the Cardinals looked to stay in front.  Two more baskets from Ryan Moorer along with free throws by Jess Andrew and Avery Collins clinched the 65-56 victory for CUAA. 

 

Concordia women's basketball will travel to Cornerstone this Wednesday, January 15th, for a 5:30pm game.
