(Grand Rapids, MI) - Concordia women's basketball traveled to Cornerstone on Wednesday night for a WHAC match. The Cardinals jumped out to a quick start and featured a solid offense in an 84-69 victory.
Abby Long led the team with 26 points. Lauren Borsenik finished second with 21 points. Ryan Moorer had a double-double with 18 points and a team-high of 14 rebounds.
Lauren Borsenik hit a 3-pointer to open scoring. Ryan Moorer drove for a layup and Abby Long converted an "and-1" along with a jumper. Brooke Brauher scored a basket and a free throw to complete a 15-2 opening run for the Cardinals. Avery Collins added a layup and CUAA held a 21-7 lead after the first quarter.
Jess Andrew made a free throw to start the second quarter. Ryan Moorer drained free throws and Avery Collins scored as the Cardinals looked to hold off a Cornerstone run. Ryan Moorer knocked down a triple and Lauren Borsenik continued to score in the paint while adding a 3-pointer. CUAA led 38-25 at halftime.
Lauren Borsenik had the first five Cardinal points in the third quarter. Ryan Moorer and Abby Long added baskets with Avery Collins draining free throws. Abby Long continued to shoot the ball well with a triple and a deep jumper. Brooke Brauher added a strong basket in the paint and CUAA maintained their lead at 63-47 after three quarters.
Brooke Brauher made a layup to open the fourth quarter. Abby Long added two more baskets and Jess Andrew scored a layup. Emily McCalla converted a tough layup down the stretch while drawing contact. Abby Long made six free throws in the final minutes to clinch the 84-69 victory.
Concordia will return home this Saturday, January 18th, to host rival Madonna University at 1pm.
