Women's Basketball rallies in fourth quarter and earns 91-82 overtime win over LTU

(Southfield, MI) - Concordia women's basketball traveled to Lawrence Tech on Saturday afternoon for a WHAC game.  The Cardinals overcame an early deficit to force overtime and claim a 91-82 victory. 

 

Abby Long led all scorers with 30 points.  Emily McCalla came in second with 13 points along with a team-high of eight rebounds.  Lauren Borsenik (12) and Ryan Moorer (10) were also in double figures.   

 

 

Emily McCalla made a layup to start an 8-0 opening run for the Cardinals.  Jess Andrew scored and Lauren Borsenik converted a layup and two free throws.  Ryan Moorer got on the scoresheet and Emily McCalla added another layup to keep the team in front.  Jess Andrew made two free throws and Lauren Borsenik scored inside, but the game was tied 16-16 after the first quarter. 

 

Lauren Borsenik converted in the paint to open the second quarter.  Hannah Vallier drove for a layup as the lead switched between the teams.  Emily McCalla scored and Brooke Brauher knocked down a triple.  Abby Long made a pair of free throws and the Cardinals continued to stay within a few points.  CUAA trailed 36-32 at halftime. 

 

Emily McCalla made a layup to open the third quarter.  Lauren Borsenik continued her strong inside presence and Avery Collins took a steal the length of the court for a basket.  Ryan Moorer scored on a quick drive and Abby Long made a pair of free throws.  Ryan Moorer continued to make fast break layups and the Cardinals performed well at the free throw line.  CUAA trailed 57-52 after three quarters. 

 

Abby Long was on fire in the fourth quarter, starting with a layup early on.  Long added a jumper, free throws, and a triple to continue the gritty comeback effort.  Lauren Borsenik tied the game 68-68 with 2:38 left to play.  Abby Long made a 3-pointer and Avery Collins made a steal for a layup as the Cardinals continued to counter Lawrence Tech baskets.  Two critical free throws by Abby Long with four seconds left forced overtime with the contest tied 75-75. 

 

Avery Collins made a pair of free throws early in overtime.  Brooke Brauher added free throws and a put-back as the Cardinals began to pull away.  Abby Long knocked down a triple and the Cardinals consistently made their free throws down the stretch for a 91-82 win. 

 

 

Concordia will host Aquinas this Tuesday, November 26th, at 5:30pm.
