(Ann Arbor, MI) - Concordia women's basketball hosted (RV) UNOH on Saturday afternoon for a WHAC matchup. While the Racers entered the contest receiving votes, the Cardinals emerged with a 76-64 victory to hand UNOH their first conference loss.
Abby Long led the team with 17 points. Lauren Borsenik had a double-double with 16 points and a team-high 10 rebounds. Jess Andrew was also in double figures with 11 points.
Ryan Moorer opened scoring in the game with a layup. Jess Andrew finished an "and-1" and Abby Long hit a jumper as both teams battled early. Avery Collins made a quick drive to the basket and Abby Long made another jumper for an 11-11 tie after the first quarter.
Lauren Borsenik quickly scored inside to open the second quarter. Abby Long drained two free throws and Julia Hirt drove for a layup. Jess Andrew added free throws and Lauren Borsenik hit a jumpshot as the Cardinals continued to stay ahead by a few points. Julia Hirt came up with a steal and a layup and Brooke Brauher converted an "and-1" inside. A late basket from Emily McCalla put CUAA ahead 28-24 heading into halftime.
Julia Hirt and Lauren Borsenik made layups early in the third quarter. Ryan Moorer scored a pair of baskets and Emily McCalla had an "and-1". Jess Andrew drove to the basket and a triple from Brooke Brauher gave the Cardinals their first double-digit lead up 48-37. Abby Long added a triple and Jess Andrew took a steal for a layup in the final minute. CUAA led 55-45 after the third quarter.
Avery Collins made a jumpshot to start the fourth quarter. Lauren Borsenik made three straight baskets inside and Jess Andrew finished a reverse layup off a feed from Abby Long. The Cardinals continued to maintain their lead with Abby Long draining many free throws. CUAA claimed the 76-64 victory as time expired.
Concordia will travel to Lourdes this Wednesday, December 18th, for a 5:30pm tipoff.
