(Ann Arbor, MI) - CUAA women's basketball hosted Indiana Tech on Wednesday night for a significant WHAC matchup. The Cardinals battled hard with the game going to overtime but the Warriors came away with a 73-69 win.
Abby Long led the team with 22 points. Brooke Brauher finished second with 13 points. Ryan Moorer came in third with 11 points. Emily McCalla had a team-high of eight rebounds.
Abby Long made the first Cardinal basket with a jumper. Brooke Brauher scored inside and Jess Andrew converted an "and-1" for a one-point lead. Ryan Moorer drove for a layup and CUAA led 9-8 after the first quarter.
Brooke Brauher had an offensive putback to start the second quarter. Lauren Borsenik added a pair of baskets and Avery Collins drained a free throw. Brooke Brauher finished an "and-1" and Julia Hirt made a layup to keep the Cardinals in front. Abby Long hit a triple and Hannah Vallier converted a layup. Abby Long and Julia Hirt drained free throws with Ryan Moorer driving for a layup. Jess Andrew made a block in the final seconds and CUAA led 31-25 at halftime.
Abby Long hit a jumper early in the third quarter. Indiana Tech rallied to take a 36-33 lead, but Emily McCalla countered with a triple right before the shot clock expired. Lauren Borsenik scored in the paint and Abby Long made a pair of free throws. Borsenik had another layup and both Ryan Moorer and Brooke Brauher knocked down jumpers. CUAA led 47-45 after the third quarter.
Hannah Vallier drained two free throws to start the fourth quarter. Indiana Tech rallied to take a 52-49 lead but Abby Long responded by driving for a layup. Brooke Brauher tied the game 53-53 with a basket in the paint and Ryan Moorer hit a go-ahead jumper after making a steal. Critical free throws by Brooke Brauher pulled the team ahead, but the Warriors tied the game 57-57 and forced overtime.
Abby Long made a jumper and a triple to end an 8-0 Indiana Tech run. Long continued to pace the offense with four more free throws as the Cardinals stayed within a few points. Ryan Moorer hit a late triple and the defense nearly forced a turnover in the final seconds. However, CUAA fell by a final score of 73-69.
CUAA will celebrate Senior Day when they host Lourdes this Saturday, February 22nd, at 1pm.
