Women's Basketball drops exciting overtime contest against Ohio Christian

(Ann Arbor, MI) - Concordia women's basketball held their home opener on Thursday night against Ohio Christian.  The game went down to the wire and required overtime, but the Trailblazers came away with a 72-61 win. 

 

Lauren Borsenik's double-double led the Cardinals with 26 points and 12 rebounds.  Emily McCalla came in second with 13 points.  Jess Andrew finished third with eight points.   

 

 

Brooke Brauher converted a layup for the first Cardinal points.  Jess Andrew drove for a basket to tie the game 4-4.  Ohio Christian countered with a 6-0 run until Brooke Brauher scored inside.  CUAA trailed 14-7 after the first quarter.   

 

Emily McCalla had a 3-pointer to open the second quarter.  The Cardinals continued to convert from behind the arc with triples by Jess Andrew and Lauren Borsenik The offense kept running through Borsenik with an "and-1" and a layup.  Emily McCalla made a late basket and CUAA trailed 28-23 at halftime. 

 

Emily McCalla scored a pair of layups to open the third quarter.  Lauren Borsenik scored in the paint and McCalla hit a triple to tie the game 32-32.  Lauren Borsenik added a go-ahead 3-pointer and Ryan Moorer finished an "and-1" down the stretch.  CUAA led 39-37 after the third quarter. 

 

Ohio Christian used a 6-0 run to retake the lead.  Abby Long ended the run with a jumper, Lauren Borsenik hit a triple, and Jess Andrew made a layup for a 46-45 CUAA lead.  Lauren Borsenik continued her strong play inside with an "and-1" and Abby Long scored again.  However, a late Ohio Christian basket forced overtime with the game tied 54-54. 

 

Ohio Christian started overtime on a 6-0 run until Abby Long drove for a layup.  Lauren Borsenik made a pair of free throws and a triple as the Cardinals looked to keep the game within reach.  However, the Trailblazers maintained their lead for a 72-61 win. 

 

Concordia will open WHAC play next Wednesday, November 20th, when they host University of Michigan-Dearborn at 5:30pm.
