Men's Hockey shuts out Oakland to open up season

(Rochester Hills, MI) - Concordia men's hockey opened their season on Friday night at Oakland University.  The Cardinals turned in a complete performance and earned a 6-0 shutout.

Connor Carroll played a complete game in goal picking up the shutout. The Cardinals opened scoring at the 7:28 mark of the first period when Derek Hebner scored with assists by Owen Gouin and Mason Blow.  The Cardinals killed off 3 first-period penalties and led 1-0 at the first intermission.

CUAA exploded for five goals in the second period.  Just a minute and a half into the period, Garrett Benoit scored off an assist from Ethan LindleMarek Drennan added a marker with helpers by Jackson Blough and Garrett BenoitGavin Scally extended the lead with assists by Mason Blough and Owen GouinCarson Ediger tacked on two power play goals with Nicholas Twombley assisting the first and both Derek Hebner and Brayden Tayles setting up the second. CUAA led 6-0 after two periods.

The Cardinals maintained their shutout through the third period, killing two more penalties.  CUAA earned a 6-0 victory as time expired. 

Concordia will host Oakland University this Saturday, September 14th, at 5pm in the Arctic Edge.
