Men's Hockey takes down Saginaw Valley State 5-2

(Ann Arbor, MI) - CUAA men's hockey began a weekend series against Saginaw Valley State on Friday afternoon, playing at an outdoor venue at Buhr Park in Ann Arbor.  The Cardinals took the lead in the second period and surged to a 5-2 victory. 

 

Conner Carroll played the first period in net making 10 saves.  Saginaw Valley struck first, but the Cardinals countered with a goal by Kyle Hebner assisted by Ethan Lindle.  The contest was tied 1-1 after the first period. 

 

Ryan Nickerson played the second period in the net making 12 saves and allowing no goals.  The Cardinals took the lead on a powerplay marker by Ethan Lindle with an assist to Carson Ediger.  The team tallied again and in the last minute on a goal by Brenden Murray set up by Brayden Tayles.  CUAA led 3-1 after the second period. 

 

Nolan Foster played the third period in the net recording 11 saves.  The Cardinals extended their lead just over two minutes in when Jackson Blough scored with helpers by Bryce Iott and Carson Ediger.  Just over a minute later, Tyler Sims found the back of the net with Brenden Murray assisting.  CUAA was able to maintain their lead to claim a 5-2 victory.   

 

CUAA will travel to Saginaw Valley State tomorrow, February 8th, for a 9:30pm game.
