Men's Hockey completes series sweep of Oakland in home opener

(Canton, MI) The Concordia Men's Hockey team had their home opener Saturday evening against Oakland University. The Cardinals fought off the Golden Grizzlies for a 6-3 victory to remain undefeated on the young season.

Derek Hebner led the Cards with 1 goal and 2 assists, while Carson Ediger and Nicholas Twombley both had 1 goal and 1 assist as well. Anthony Seykora earned the win in between the pipes with a total of 18 saves on the night.

The Cardinals drew first blood when Gavin Scally found the back of the net just under three minutes into the game. Concordia then took advantage of their first power play opportunity when Derek Hebner doubled the Cardinal lead heading into the first intermission.

Oakland opened up the second period with a pair of goals to even the game up at two a piece. Nicholas Twombley netted a goal with 23 seconds remaining to give Concordia the lead heading into the final period.

The third period featured more penalties, but not before Ethan Lindle tacked on a deflection goal for Concordia four minutes in. The first was by way of Jackson Blough on a power play. Carson Ediger closed out the game with a final goal to make it 6-3 in the end.

Concordia will hit the road next weekend as they will square off against Delaware next Friday and Saturday.
