Men's Hockey finishes the job on the road for first WHAC sweep over RCU

(Fraser, MI) The Concordia men's hockey team completed their first sweep in conference play this season, defeating the Rochester Christian Warriors 6-4. The Cardinals improve to 4-9-1 overall and 2-6 in WHAC play.

Kolton Horn started the party, beating the RCU goalie to the far post on a wrap-around assisted by Nicholas Twombley to make the score 1-0. Braden Yurkunas found the back of the net on a rebound for his first Division One goal, assisted by Owen Gouin and Ross Eaton. After a Bryce Iott breakaway ending in a Rochester hooking penalty, the Cards struck 19 seconds into the power play when Carson Ediger found Jackson Blough high in the zone for a shot, which had a helpful deflection from Twombley for the goal. Blough wasn't finished finding himself a high slot rebound off of Ediger's shot, which he buried to score 4-0 at the end of the 1st period.

Rochester Christian kicked off the 2nd with an odd-man rush, leading to their first goal of the game. A relentless forecheck led Jack Kallsen to spring McCarthy Clark below the hash marks with a mini one-on-one with the goalie, leading to a 5-1 CUAA lead.

CUAA ran into some penalty trouble, including an extended stay on a five-on-three penalty kill, which resulted in RCU tightening the game up to 5-4, two goals from Kyle Hauer and one from Shaun Zatelli. After a CUAA timeout, the Cards got the puck out of their zone, leading to a two-on-one when Twombley found Iott for the dagger to end the game 6-4 in favor of the Cardinals.

Concordia faces a quick turnaround as they hit the road to take on Division II Schoolcraft College at Mike Modano Arena in Northville on Wednesday, November 6th, at 7:35 p.m. CUAA returns to WHAC action on the road versus #22 Indiana Tech on Friday, November 8th, at 7:30 p.m.
