(Indianapolis, IN) – Concordia baseball traveled to Marian for a weekend series starting on Saturday. The Cardinals moved to 7-0 on the year with two victories.
Game 1 – CUAA 9, MU 6
Tyson Kleinfelter started game 1, notching 4 strikeouts in 5 innings. The Cardinals struck first in the 2nd when Jarrett Batanian and Drew Fleming scored off an error. Marian got 1 run in the bottom half.
In the 3rd, Drew Fleming hit an RBI single scoring Jordan Sherman. Harrison Ryan scored on a wild pitch and Caleb Harmond hit a sacrifice fly to drive in Fleming. Marian had a run in the bottom half.
In the 5th, Harrison Ryan made it home after a wild throw. Jarrett Batanian scored on a fielder's choice and Aaron (AJ) Brazelton used an RBI bunt to drive in Taishin Matsushita. Marian countered with 4 runs, but the Cardinals stayed ahead 8-6.
Evan Jasiak came on in the 6th, making 2 strikeouts in 4 innings. Taishin Matushita capped scoring with an RBI bunt in the 9th, allowing Harrison Ryan to slide home safely.
Game 2 – CUAA 9, MU 7 (7 innings)
Drew Murphy started game 2 on the mound, making 2 strikeouts in 2 innings. Concordia scored 4 runs in the 1st, starting when Jarrett Batanian hit a bases-loaded 2-RBI single. Caleb Harmond added a 2-RBI single to cap the inning. Marian scored 1 run in the bottom half.
James (Jimmy) Wressel used an RBI single in the 2nd to score John Markiewicz. Marian plated 2 runs in the 2nd and 3rd to tie the game 5-5. Bryon Mane pitched in the 3rd, recording a strikeout.
Drew Fleming hit a go-ahead RBI double in the 4th to score Jordan Sherman. Logan Fleming finished the game on the mound, racking up 5 strikeouts in 4 innings. Marian retook the lead with 2 runs in the 4th, but the Cardinals countered in the 5th when Aaron (AJ) Brazelton and Caleb Harmond scored on an error.
Jarrett Batanian tacked on a RBI single scoring Jake Ryan in the 7th to close out scoring.
Concordia will travel to Asbury for a 3-game series from March 3-4.
