Baseball reaches 40 wins with two more over Cornerstone

(Grand Rapids, MI) – Concordia baseball traveled to Cornerstone on Tuesday afternoon for a WHAC doubleheader.  The Cardinals advanced to 40-5 on the season with two more victories. 

 

Game 1 – CUAA 8, CU 1 

Tyson Kleinfelter started game 1, making 6 strikeouts in 6 innings.  The game remained scoreless until the 4th when Jimmy Wressel hit a deep solo home run.  Jarrett Batanian added a 2-RBI single for a 3-0 lead. 

In the 5th, Caleb Harmond hit into a fielder's choice scoring Aaron West.  Cornerstone broke the shutout in the bottom half. 

In the 7th, Jordan Sherman hit an RBI single and Justin Kozlowski added an RBI bunt single.  Jordan Sherman reached home on a wild pitch and Aaron Brazelton used a sacrifice fly to score Caleb Harmond. 

Evan Jasiak closed out the 7th inning on the mound to secure the win. 

 

Game 2 – CUAA 6, CU 2 

Timothy Pomaville started game 2, notching 7 strikeouts in 6 innings.  Once again the game started as a pitchers' duel with no runs in the first 4 innings. 

In the 5th, Jimmy Wressel hit an RBI double to score Drew FlemingJordan Sherman tacked on an RBI single and Caleb Harmond crushed a 2-run homer to cap the inning. 

In the 6th, Jimmy Wressel was hit by a pitch with the bases loaded forcing Aaron Brazelton home.  Jordan Sherman then drew a bases-loaded walk to send Kyle Hebner home. 

Logan Fleming pitched in the 7th and Kenneth Rozmys closed out the 8th and 9th with 4 strikeouts.  While Cornerstone broke the shutout, the Cardinals secured the 6-2 victory. 

 

Concordia will play a weekend series at Lawrence Tech this Saturday and Sunday to close out WHAC play.
