Baseball cruises past Shawnee State 16-2

(Portsmouth, OH) – Concordia baseball traveled to Shawnee State on Saturday afternoon to begin a weekend series.  The Cardinals' bats continued hitting on all cylinders for a 16-2 win in 8 innings. 

 

 

Tyson Kleinfelter pitched 7 innings, racking up 12 strikeouts.  The Cardinals opened scoring in the 2nd when Jarrett Batanian crushed a 3-run homer.  Jordan Sherman added an RBI single to drive in Aaron (AJ) Brazelton.  Kleinfelter struck out every batter in the bottom of the 2nd. 

 

Jarrett Batanian came up big again in the 5th with a grand slam to open a 7-0 lead.  Tyson Kleinfelter stayed hot with strikeouts of every batter in the bottom of the 5th.  In the 6th, Drew Fleming tacked on an RBI double scoring Aaron West in the 6th. 

 

In the 8th, Caleb Harmond hit a bases-loaded RBI single driving in Jordan ShermanJohn Markiewicz used a sacrifice fly to score James (Jimmy) Wressel.  The long balls continued with Aaron (AJ) Brazelton smacking a grand slam and Taisei Yamada hitting a solo home run. 

 

Taishin Matsushita came on to finish the game in the 8th, recording 3 strikeouts.  The Cardinals triggered the mercy rule and claimed the 16-2 win. 

 

 

Concordia will remain at Shawnee State tomorrow for games at 12pm and 4pm.
