Baseball sweeps Indiana Tech in regular season home finale

[Ann Arbor, MI]   —   Concordia hosted the Warriors from Indiana Tech in a pivotal WHAC double header matchup on Thursday afternoon. The Cardinals would win both games by the final scores of 12-1 and 8-2, respectively. Jordan Sherman collected six hits and three RBI's across the two contests, while Drew Fleming would set a school record for the most home runs hit in a single season.


GAME 1 — CUAA 12, IIT 1

 

In game one the scoring would start in the second inning for the Cardinals, who would score three runs in the bottom half of the frame. Sherman laced an RBI double to right center before being brought in by Aaron (AJ) Brazelton's RBI fielder's choice. Concordia would score their third run of the inning thanks to a wild pitch by the Warriors starter Zach Zaborowski.

 

The scoring would go silent until the top of the fourth when Indiana Tech would score their lone run of the game on an RBI single by Jaden Reed. The Cardinals would respond with a four run bottom of the fourth, highlighted by Brazelton's three-run double and Kyle Hebner's RBI single.

 

The Cardinals would keep their foot on the gas the rest of the way, scoring three runs in the fifth inning and two runs in the sixth inning. Sherman drove in two of the three runs in the fifth, while Fleming sent his record setting home run ball (14) to right field in the sixth inning.

 

Tyson Kleinfelter (9-1) would record the win after pitching 6 innings of one-run baseball. Kleinfelter would surrender seven hits and three walks while striking out five batters. Zach Zaborowski (4-3) picked up the loss after allowing 10 runs to score in 4+ innings of work. Zaborowski gave up eight hits and five walks while also recording five strikeouts.


GAME 2 — CUAA 8, IIT 2

 

Drew Murphy started game two as the opener for the Cards and shut down the Warriors through 2 innings of work. Meanwhile, Aaron West helped to give Murphy a nice lead in the bottom of the first inning with a two run home run. Curtis Townsend also doubled home a run as a part of that inning.

 

Lucas Pleterski doubled in the first run of the game for Indiana Tech in the top of the third inning, before Concordia's John Markiewicz and West would RBI's of their own in the bottom of the third.

 

Parker Bates added a sacrifice fly to bring the Warriors second run in the top of the fourth, but the Cardinals would add on three runs in the bottom of the sixth inning thanks to home runs from Fleming (15) and Jarrett Batanian (7, 2R HR).

 

Timothy Pomaville (6-1) would get the win as he pitched the bulk of the game (4 ⅔ innings). Pomaville allowed four hits and five walks while striking out four batters and allowing just two runs. Coley Stevens (3-3) would get tagged with the loss as he went just 2 ⅓ innings. Stevens allowed five runs (two earned runs) and four hits, while also surrendering six walks to just four strikeouts.

 

 

The Cardinals will kick off a four game series with U-M Dearborn starting on Saturday at 1 PM. The games will be played at Harwell Baseball Field in Detroit, MI.
