Baseball sweeps Aquinas in WHAC play

(Adrian, MI) – Concordia baseball continued WHAC conference play against Aquinas at the neutral site of Siena Heights on Tuesday afternoon.  The Cardinals claimed a 5-0 shutout in game 1 and won an 11-10 marathon in game 2. 

 

Game 1 – CUAA 5, AQ 0 (7 innings) 

Tyson Kleinfelter pitched a complete game, racking up 15 strikeouts.  The Cardinals opened scoring in the 1st with a solo home run by Drew Fleming. 

In the 2nd, Justin Kozlowski hit an RBI single driving in Caleb Harmond.  Aaron Brazelton and Kozlowski later scored on a throwing error. 

In the 5th, Tyler Wressel made it home on a throwing error.  Tyson Kleinfelter continued to maintain the shutout and Concordia took the 5-0 win. 

 

Game 2 – CUAA 11, AQ 10 

Drew Murphy started game 2, pitching 3 innings with 2 strikeouts.  Caleb Harmond opened scoring in the 2nd with a sacrifice fly to drive in Jordan Sherman. 

In the 3rd, Jimmy Wressel hit an RBI double scoring Aaron West.  An RBI single by Jordan Sherman and an RBI double from Caleb Harmond gave CUAA a 4-0 lead. 

Aquinas plated 6 runs in the 4th to take the lead.  In the bottom half, a 2-RBI single from Drew Fleming tied the game 6-6. 

Aquinas added 2 runs in the 5th and a run in the 6th to go up 9-6.  In the bottom half, Jarrett Batanian hit a solo home run and Aaron West used a sacrifice fly to score Aaron Brazelton. 

Aquinas scored in the 8th, but the Cardinals answered in the bottom half starting with a solo home run by Kyle HebnerDrew Fleming then smashed a go-ahead 2-run homer to put the Cards up 11-10. 

Drew Fleming came in to pitch in the 9th, making 2 strikeouts and securing the sweep. 

 

Concordia will return home this Saturday and Sunday to start a weekend series with rival Siena Heights.  Both doubleheaders start at 1pm.
