(Portsmouth, OH) – Concordia baseball continued their series against Shawnee State with a doubleheader on Sunday. The Cardinals completed the sweep to move to 5-0 on the year.
Game 1 – CUAA 10, SSU 7
Drew Murphy started game 1, making 4 strikeouts in 4.1 innings. Jarrett Batanian opened scoring in the 2nd with a 2-RBI double.
In the 3rd, Jordan Sherman used a sacrifice fly to score Curtis Townsend. Jarrett Batanian continued his solid hitting in the 4th with an RBI single to drive in Drew Fleming.
Kenneth (Dave) Rozmys came in to pitch in the 5th, notching 4 strikeouts in 3.1 innings. Shawnee State plated 5 runs in the 5th to go up 5-4.
Jake Ryan scored on a wild pitch in the 7th to tie the game. Caleb Harmond hit a solo home run in the 8th, but Shawnee State countered with one in the bottom half to keep the game tied.
Evan Jasiak finished the game on the mound with 2 strikeouts in 1.1 innings. In the 9th, Tyler Wressel scored on a fielder's choice to put the Cardinals ahead. Caleb Harmond hit an RBI single and Jarrett Batanian crushed a 2-run homer.
Evan Jasiak limited Shawnee State to 1 run in the 9th to close out the game.
Game 2 – CUAA 11, SSU 3 (7 innings)
Billy Blair started on the mound in game 1. James (Jimmy) Wressel had an RBI single in the 1st to drive in Curtis Townsend. Drew Fleming and Caleb Harmond added RBI doubles to extend the lead to 4-0.
Shawnee State had 2 runs in the 1st. Mackenzie Martin pitched the 2nd inning, making 2 strikeouts. In the 3rd, James (Jimmy) Wressel led off with a solo home run and Jarrett Batanian tacked on an RBI single.
Timothy Pomaville pitched the rest of the game starting in the 3rd, notching 7 strikeouts in 5 innings. In the 4th, James (Jimmy) Wressel hit an RBI double and Kyle Hebner used a sacrifice fly to score Jordan Sherman.
In the 5th, Jarrett Batanian continued his standout day with an RBI single scoring Taishin Matsushita. Harrison Ryan used a sacrifice bunt to drive in Batanian and Jordan Sherman singled to score Aaron (AJ) Brazelton.
Timothy Pomaville held Shawnee State to just 1 run in the 6th, closing out the game for the win.
Concordia will travel to Marian on March 25-26 for a 3-game series.
