Baseball takes two wins over UM-Dearborn; Johnston records 300th victory as Head Coach

(Detroit, MI) – Concordia baseball took on UM-Dearborn at Wayne State on Sunday afternoon for a WHAC doubleheader.  The Cardinals claimed two more wins on the day to keep rolling, the latter of which was head coach Zachary Johnston's 300th career victory in the role. 


 

Game 1 – CUAA 11, UMD 2 

Drew Murphy started game 1, making 5 strikeouts in 6 innings.  In the 1st, Jimmy Wressel hit an RBI double to score Drew Fleming. 

In the 2nd, Caleb Harmond reached home on an error.  Aaron Brazelton hit an RBI single and Kyle Hebner added an RBI double. 

In the 4th, Drew Fleming crushed a 3-run homer.  In the 5th, Aaron West used a sacrifice fly to score Jarrett BatanianKyle Hebner and Aaron Brazelton later made it home on an error. 

UM-Dearborn broke the shutout in the 6th with 2 runs.  In the 7th, Taisei Yamada hit an RBI double to drive in John Markiewicz. 

Mackenzie Martin closed out the 7th inning on the mound to seal the win. 

 

Game 2 – CUAA 7, UMD 4 

Billy Blair started game 2, notching a strikeout.  In the 1st, Jordan Sherman hit a 3-RBI double to open scoring.  Jordan Sherman reached home on an error and Justin Kozlowski added an RBI groundout. 

Kenneth Rozmys closed out the 1st and went 4.1 innings with 6 strikeouts.  In the 5th, Jordan Sherman and Jarrett Batanian hit RBI singles to extend the lead. 

Evan Jasiak came in to pitch in the 6th, going 3 innings with one strikeout.  Drew Fleming closed out the 9th inning with 2 strikeouts to clinch the win. 

 

Concordia will travel to Cornerstone this Tuesday for a doubleheader at 2pm.
