Baseball splits in weekend finale with Lawrence Tech
 
 

(Utica, MI) – Concordia baseball closed out their weekend series with two more games at Lawrence Tech on Sunday afternoon.  The Cardinals took a 12-4 win in game 1 before falling 17-7 in game 2. 

 

Game 1 – CUAA 12, LTU 4 

Timothy Pomaville started game 1, making 3 strikeouts in 2 innings.  LTU went up 2-0 after a home run in the 1st. 

Taishin Matsushita pitched starting in the 3rd and went the final 5 innings.  The Cardinal bats came alive with 7 runs in the 5th, starting when Jordan Sherman scored on an error.  Kyle Hebner hit a 2-RBI single and Jimmy Wressel drew a bases-loaded walk.  Jordan Sherman then cleared the bases with a 3-RBI double to cap the inning. 

In the 6th, Aaron West crushed a 3-run homer and Drew Fleming followed with a solo shot.  Jarrett Batanian followed with a solo home run in the 7th and Concordia took game 1. 

 

Game 2 – LTU 17, CUAA 7 

Mackenzie Martin started game 2, notching 1 strikeout in 2 innings.  In the 1st, Jimmy Wressel hit an RBI double scoring Aaron West.  LTU came back to lead 5-1 after the 2nd. 

Jack Vrba and Kyle Winslow pitched in the 3rd with Winslow going 3.2 innings.  In the 4th, Jarrett Batanian hit a 3-run homer off the top of the fence to cut into the deficit. 

Concordia took a 7-6 lead with 3 runs in the 6thJohn Markiewicz used an RBI single to score Jarrett Batanian and Kyle Hebner hit a go-ahead 2-RBI double. 

Riley O'Connell, Ryan Patterson, and Brad Oltersdorf combined to finish the game on the mound.  LTU slowly made a comeback and went on to close the game after 7 innings by the mercy rule. 

 

Concordia will now await their opponent in the WHAC tournament. As the regular season champions, the Cardinals will be hosting one of the home pods starting on Thursday.
