Baseball picks up 5-1 win over Siena Heights on Saturday; Game 2 Postponed

(Ann Arbor, MI) - The Concordia Cardinals baseball team continued Wolverine-Hoosier Athletic Conference (WHAC) play on Saturday as they would go up against the rival Saints from Siena Heights. The teams would make it through game 1 playing through the elements but would see game 2 being postponed until early next week.

The Cardinals are off to their best start in program history with a 19-1 record overall and a WHAC record of 4-0 after sweeping Cleary and Aquinas earlier in the week. The Saints on the other hand come into the weekend series with a 4-12 record overall and 1-3 in the WHAC as they dropped two games to Indiana Tech and split with Northwestern Ohio.

The Cardinal would throw out Timothy Pomaville in game 1. Pomaville would get plenty of help throughout the game from the defense as they would turn two double plays in the first two innings. Pomaville would go the distance in the game only allowing five baserunners while striking out seven batters in total.

The Cardinal would strike first with three scores in the bottom of the third. Jarrett Batanian began the inning with a single up the middle of the infield. Aaron (AJ) Brazelton then came up with a double down the left field line to score Batanian and came around to score on an Aaron West single. The final run of the inning came on a Jordan Sherman single to right field which would score West.

The Saints grabbed a run in the fourth on a double to left center field. The Cards would get that run back in the fifth on West's single. The final run of the game would come through Taisei Yamada as he would get hit by a pitch with the bases loaded bringing in the fifth run.
