Baseball see's 10 named to NCCAA Midwest All-Region team

(Ann Arbor, MI) - The National Christian College Athletic Association (NCCAA) announced its regional baseball awards on Monday and multiple Cardinals were recognized. 

 

Jordan Sherman, Caleb Harmond, Jarrett Batanian, Drew Fleming, James (Jimmy) Wressel, Kyle Hebner, Aaron West, Tyson Kleinfelter, Timothy Pomaville, and Evan Jasiak were all named to the first or second-team All-Region. Head Coach Zach Johnston was named as the Coach of the Year for the Midwest Region as well. 

 

 

JORDAN SHERMAN | SENIOR | HOMER, MICHIGAN

Jordan Sherman makes his second appearance on the Midwest All-Region team and this is his first time on the First Team. Sherman collected the second-most hits in the NCCAA this season as he is up to 91 while maintaining a batting average of .408. 

 

CALEB HARMOND | SENIOR | TEMECULA, CALIFORNIA

Harmond eans his first appearance on the Midwest All-Region team with this selection. Harmond is hitting .362 this season with 40 RBIs in the middle of the Cardinal's lineup. He has scored 54 runs which is the ninth-most in the NCCAA. 

 

JARRETT BATANIAN | SENIOR | SYLVANIA, OHIO

Batanian put up another solid season for the Cardinals as he hit a batting average of .349 with 13 home runs and 60 RBIs. The 14 home runs are the seventh most in the NCCAA, while 60RBIs are the fourth most. This is the second time he is being honored on either the first or the second team. 

 

DREW FLEMING | JUNIOR | DAVISON, MICHIGAN

The Wolverine-Hoosier Athletic Conference (WHAC) Player and Newcomer of the Year leads the offensive attack for the Cardinals and the NCCAA with 27 home runs (1st in the NCCAA) and 79 RBIs (3rd in the NCCAA). Fleming also has a .358 batting average with 76 hits. 

 

JAMES (JIMMY) WRESSEL | SENIOR | PAW PAW, MICHIGAN

Making his second straight appearance on the First Team All-Region Wressel hit .311 on the year with eight home runs and 38 RBIs. His eight home runs are 24th in the NCCAA. He has walked the most in the NCCAA as well with 51 on the season. 

 

KYLE HEBNER | SOPHOMORE | HARBOR SPRING, MICHIGAN

The Cardinal's leadoff man in Hebner makes his first appearance on the All-Region team after being named the NCCAA World Series MVP last season. This year Hebner has a .292 batting average while hitting seven home runs and bringing in 42 RBIs. 

 

AARON WEST | SOPHOMORE | GRAND LEDGE, MICHIGAN

West a First Team All-Region selection and NCCAA All-American First Team selection a year makes his second straight appearance on the All-Region team. This season West is hitting .323 with six home runs and 40 RBIs. He has also scored 52 runs which are 19th in the NCCAA. 

 

TYSON KLEINFELTER | SENIOR | PERRYSBURG, OHIO

The WHAC Pitcher of the Year is named the Midwest Pitcher of the Year as well after leading the NCCAA with 11 wins on the year and a 2.77 ERA, which is the fourth-lowest. He has accumulated 103 strikeouts this season which is the fifth-most. This is his second honor on the Midwest All-Region team. 

 

TIMOTHY POMAVILLE | SENIOR | WARREN, MICHIGAN

Pomaville makes his second straight appearance on the first team. Pomaville is second on the team with eight wins on the season which is the seventh-most in the NCCAA. He has also earned the eighth-lowest ERA at 3.20. 

 

EVAN JASIAK | FRESHMAN | PARCHMENT, MICHIGAN

One of the top bullpen arms for the Cardinals in Jasiak has recorded an 8-0 record on the season. He has an ERA of 3.68 this season as he has also struck out 22 batters over 36.2 innings. This is his first appearance on the Midwest All-Region Team. 

 

ZACH JOHNSTON | 9TH SEASON

Head Coach Zach Johnston is currently in his ninth season at the helm of the Cardinal Baseball program. The team won their first Wolverine-Hoosier Athletic Conference (WHAC) regular season championship. The Cardinals made it to the Opening Round of the NAIA Tournament this season for the first time in program history.
